Alice Can Dance

Presented by GUTS Dance and Sadadeen Primary School

Alice Can Dance returns to the Araluen for its 6th iteration in 2018, bringing together over 230 young people from Central Australian public schools in a celebration of identity, dance and a shared love of music.

“What is music? Where does it come from? Why do some sequences of sound move us so, while others…make many people feel uncomfortable? No known human culture now or anytime in the recorded past lacked music. Whenever humans come together for any reason, music is there: weddings, funerals, graduation, men marching off to war, sporting events, a night on the town, prayer, a romantic dinner, mothers rocking their infants to sleep…Even more so in ancient cultures than in modern western societies, music is and was part of the fabric of everyday life.”
Text extracted from This is your brain on music by Daniel J. Levitin.

This year, we bring together our love of dance and the power of movement, to highlight perhaps it greatest ally – music. Join us as we celebrate and animate through choreography and performance everything from elements of music making to the way music can make us feel, to the most prominent music of these young people’s generation.

Tune in to 8CCC radio (102.1FM) half an hour before each performance to get yourselves into the groove with the Alice Can Dance Radio Show, then join us at the Araluen for a night of performance by a swathe of Central Australia’s most talented, generous and exciting young performers.

Alice Can Dance is a GUTS Dance program supported through a partnership with the Northern Territory Department of Education.
