Desert Mob 2017

Presented in partnership with Desart

Desert Mob is one of the most anticipated and important Aboriginal art and cultural events in the nation, bringing together Desart-member art centres from across vast regions of the Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia. Desert Mob is a unique annual gathering of artists, artworks and audiences, in the heart of the region, Alice Springs. Desert Mob continues to be a bold and exhilarating statement of Aboriginal art and its dynamism, and over its 27 year history has remained the most immediate interface between Aboriginal art making in remote desert communities and the wider world. The Desert Mob 2017 opening, including Exhibition, Symposium and MarketPlace, presents the latest developments in contemporary Aboriginal art, and invites you to meet the artists, listen to their stories and share their culture in the heart of their country.

Exhibition Opening: Thursday 7 September, 5.30pm

Spanning three galleries, the hundreds of new artworks selected for Desert Mob are determined by artists and their art centres. The Desert Mob exhibition is both a testament to tradition and a testing ground for experimentation and innovation in contemporary Aboriginal art from the desert. The exhibition presents paintings, sculpture, weaving, wood carving, ceramics, prints, photography, works on paper and multimedia by both established and emerging artists.  Exhibition open until Sun 22 October.
