Desert Mob 2022
Now in its 31st year, Desert Mob is a celebration of the bold and vibrant expression that is desert Aboriginal art and culture.
Desert Mob showcases one of the most significant art movements, one of vast distance, country and kinship, forming a statement of what's happening in the Desart member art centres right now.
The celebration also becomes an important gathering for artists, families and visitors each year, and one of cultural exchange and sharing.
From September 1 - 7 Desart is presenting Art Centres on Screen; a powerful collection of story-telling direct from the desert with artists sharing their personal histories, art and community.
Opening on September 8, the Desert Mob Exhibition is a vibrant and true statement of contemporary cultural expression and power. Curated by Hetti Perkins and Marisa Maher, the exhibition will bring together hundreds of new, innovative artworks from both emerging and established artists.
The Desert Mob MarketPlace on September 10 is a large affordable buzzing art market, bringing together paintings, punu, ceramics, Tjanpi weaving, sculpture, clothing, jewellery, textiles and homewares from Aboriginal-owned art centres across Central Australia. Running alongside the MarketPlace is an engaging Public Program offering visitors a space to experience and share in the art, stories and vitality of Aboriginal culture through demonstrations, performances and workshops.
Buying work at the Desert Mob Exhibition and Marketplace ensures the ethical purchasing of art with all income going to art centres.
The celebration is amplified by multiple satellite events and exhibitions across Mparntwe, making Desert Mob a rich festival of Aboriginal art and culture.
