Sally Mumford | Thirty-six views of Mparntwe
Featured Artwork: Sally Mumford, Ankerre Ankerre (graphite on paper 112 x 152cm)
Since her solo exhibition in 1998 at the Araluen Arts Centre, Sally Mumford has spent years immersing herself in Arrernte country.
Her ongoing art practice and teaching have allowed her to connect to place, community and the sharing of stories.
“From just about any position in the township of Mparntwe, you only have to look out to see ranges and hills. They are significant to the town’s cultural identities. They hold and connect us deeply to place”.
This exhibition, through drawing and printmaking, considers the layered complexity of this place. It explores the relationship between the urban environment and the landscape and reflects on events and histories that continue to shape the way we live in this town.
Sally is a lecturer in the Arts faculty for Charles Darwin University at the Alice Springs campus.
