Araluen Arts Centre presents a masterful murder-mystery live on stage
The Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture’s Araluen Arts Centre presents Marguerite Duras' gripping crime drama L’amante Anglaise, or The Lovers of Viorne, brought to life on stage by Critical Stages.
“Following four sold-out seasons at Melbourne’s La Mama and fortyfivedownstairs, the Araluen Arts Centre is pleased to present L’amante Anglaise as part of its national tour,” Senior Director of the Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture’s Araluen Cultural Precinct, Dr. Mark Crees said.
“This production presents two superb performances that underpin an incredible night of theatre for Alice Springs audiences as they are taken right inside the heart and mind of a murderer.”
Pierre and Claire are an ordinary couple leading everyday lives until a brutal murder is committed in their small town in France. What is revealed is the beauty and brutality of their inner selves as they create a painstaking and powerful portrait of lost passion.
The production reunites actors Rob Meldrum as Pierre and Jillian Murray in her 2015 Green Room Award-winning turn as Pierre’s wife, Claire. Their performances are absolutely riveting, attracting rave reviews from audiences and critics alike.
“L’amante Anglaise is an edge-of-your-seat drama based on a fascinating true crime that took place in 1949. This is a compelling story from one of France’s most renowned authors, who is best known for her Oscar-winning screenplay Hiroshima Mon Amour.”
L’amante Anglaise will be live onstage at the Araluen Arts Centre on Thursday 30 May, 8.00pm.
Ticket prices are $50 for adults, $45 for concessions and $40 for Araluen Arts Centre Members. Araluen Arts Centre Members with a concession card can purchase tickets for $35.
Tickets are available online at www.araluenartscentre.nt.gov.au or from the Araluen Box Office on (08) 8951 1122.
