Shadows come alive in new children’s theatre work by Patch Theatre Company

The Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture’s Araluen Arts Centre presents the delightful award-winning production Me and My Shadow by Adelaide children’s theatre company Patch Theatre.

“We are looking forward to sharing the rich and vibrant Me and My Shadow with Alice Springs children aged 4-8 years and their families,” Senior Director for the Department of Tourism, Sport and Culture’s Araluen Cultural Precinct, Dr Mark Crees said.

“This production is a magical visual poem for children, using paper, light, shadow, colour, water, music, sound and words to create a world of play where imaginations materialise on stage.”

Me and My Shadow is a story about a girl making friends with her shadow as she navigates the difficulty and delight a new friendship can bring. As she discovers, making friends with your shadow can be a tricky business: there are things to sort out, problems to solve, adventures to have and laughter to be shared.

Artistic Director Geoff Cobham described Me and My Shadow as “an instant classic” that  “had become a benchmark for a new style of creative collaboration for Patch. We are very proud of the way design, sound and performance are seamlessly integrated.”

“This is a remarkable, moving and wholly original work, which fully deserves the 5-star rave reviews and sell-out seasons it has gathered across Australia and the US. It is a truly beautiful piece of theatre.”

Me and My Shadow premiered in 2010. It won the Helpmann Award for Best Presentation for Children in 2011 and was a Sydney Theatre Award nominee in 2011 for Best Production for Children.

It has played to great success nationally as well as overseas, with two tours to New York and Washington. Last year the company toured to China for the first time with Me and My Shadow, performing to 4,000 people over two weeks.

Me and My Shadow will be live onstage at the Araluen Arts Centre on Thursday, 2 May, 6pm and Friday, 3 May, 10am and 1pm.

Ticket prices are $30 for adults, $27.50 for concessions and $25 for Araluen Arts Centre Members. Araluen Arts Centre Members with a concession card can purchase tickets for $22.50. Members of school groups are only $20.

Tickets are available online at www.araluenartscentre.nt.gov.au or from the Araluen Box Office on (08) 8951 1122.
