MASIFF | A Useful Ghost

Comedy

From ambitious newcomer Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke comes a genre-smashing amalgamation of fantasy, horror, romance, comedy, art house and everything in between.

After dying of dust poisoning, Nat’s (Davika Hoorne) ghost possesses a vacuum cleaner and tries to rekindle her relationship with her grief-stricken husband, March (Wisarut Himmarat). But March’s family never liked Nat in life—let alone as a household appliance. To win them over, she takes on the restless spirits haunting her their factory’s machines. In this stylish debut, Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke delivers a phantasmagorical, genre-bending tale of love, loss, and working-class resistance.

Alongside this is the tale of a repair guy (Wanlop Rungkumjud) who shows up at the door of a self-declared “Academic Ladyboy” (Wisarut Homhuan) to fix another possessed vacuum. The intertwining stories and unimaginable turn of events reveal complex layers and deeper context beneath the setting dust. Don’t let the breathtaking images fool you. There is more than what meets the eye.

Contains supernatural themes and surreal violence.

MPARNTWE ALICE SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

From 9 to 19 October 2025, MASIFF will take over the Araluen Arts Centre, Alice Springs Desert Park and Alice Springs Cinema, delivering an unforgettable program of local, national and international cinema right here in the Red Centre.

We believe in the power of film to do more than entertain - it can inspire connection, challenge boundaries, and spark important conversations. MASIFF fosters intercultural understanding by bringing diverse communities together through shared stories and lived experiences.

At the same time, the festival shines a spotlight on regional storytelling, celebrating the creativity of Central Australian filmmakers and amplifying remote voices that deserve to be heard. By pairing local talent with films from across the globe, MASIFF creates a unique cultural exchange that honours the Red Centre and connects it to the wider world.

Produced by Red Hot Arts with the generous support of the Darwin International Film Festival (DIFF) and the Darwin Film Society.
