Sally Mumford | Thirty-six views of Mparntwe
Featured Artwork: Sally Mumford, Ankerre Ankerre (graphite on paper 112 x 152cm)
Since her solo exhibition in 1998 at the Araluen Arts Centre, Sally Mumford has spent years immersing herself in Arrernte country. Her ongoing art practice and teaching have allowed her to connect to place, community and the sharing of stories.
“From just about any position in the township of Mparntwe, you only have to look out to see ranges and hills. They are significant to the town’s cultural identity. They hold and connect us deeply to place”.
In this exhibition, through drawing and printmaking, Sally will explore the conjunction/disjunction of the urban infrastructure of the township, its history and identity, with this living topography.
Sally, presently, is a lecturer in the Arts faculty for Charles Darwin University at the Alice Springs campus.
