Art Lab with Aretha Brown

Workshops

Art Labs are a series of artist-led workshops connecting young audiences with artists, artmaking and the National Gallery collection.

In this Art Lab, join artist Aretha Brown, Gumbaynggirr people, in a bedazzling workshop creating sparkly tributes to people who inspire us.

Begin with an exhibition floor talk in the 5th National Indigenous Art Triennial: After the Rain led by National Gallery artist educators and learn how contemporary First Nations artists use diverse materials, techniques and ideas to share stories, challenge expectations and express identity.

Then, take inspiration from Aretha Brown’s Bedazzled sculptural series, use rhinestones, jewels and other playful materials to transform an image of someone who inspires you into a glittering celebration of connection, joy and admiration. Through mindful making and conversation, reflect on the people who have shaped, supported and inspired you.

This workshop is an opportunity to slow down, connect and make something meaningful, while embracing colour, sparkle, humour and unapologetic self-expression.

This program is generously supported by the National Gallery’s Learning & Digital Patron, Tim Fairfax AC.
