Alice Springs Quilting Club 2017 Exhibition

Exhibitions

Presented by the Alice Springs Quilting Club

Opening Saturday 11 November

Central Australia is home to a rich textile art movement. The Alice Springs Quilting Club, and the annual exhibition they present, are now both into their fourth decade. The exhibition reinforces the extraordinary artisanship of the craft, the fusion of quilting’s rich tradition and traditional methods with contemporary types of making and contemporary subject matter. The quilts included in 2017 are ambitious and intricate, delicate and bold, kaleidoscopic in their use of fabric and colour, labour-intensive and seriously quirky. They draw on place, community, comradery and stitch and block as inspiration. The exhibition is a platform, encouraging participation and the exchange of skills and knowledge with the wider community.
