Ash Grunwald

Music

Following his 10th appearance at Bluesfest, Ash this year packed-up the family and hit the road for a lap o’ Australia, indulging more than a few desert surf locations along the way.

“We’ve wanted to do this trip ever since we had kids,” reflects Grunwald about his forthcoming trip. “We've crossed the Nullabor a handful of times but never done a proper lap of Oz. I’ve also seen some amazing places over the past 20 years travelling around the country, playing gigs, and chasing waves, but I haven’t given the kids this experience yet. Sometimes you’ve just got to book it in and go, or it will never happen. This may be the last time we spend months out of phone service, so we want to give the kids that experience before they grow up too much.”

A journeyman, storyteller, and troubadour at heart, Australia’s foremost bluesman Ash Grunwald has inspired a generation to hit the road in an old beat-up Bedford to ‘surf by day jam by night’. With six Australian Top-50 albums to his credit, alongside five ARIA and four AIR Award Nominations, two APRA Awards, and gong for Best International Act at the LA Music Critic Awards in 2014, Grunwald is cast in bronze among Australia’s most successful blues musicians.

Enshrined by Australian folklore, live on stage, Grunwald rocks the house yet touches the soul, serving a tsunami of dance, beats, roots, bass ‘n’ blues. Throughout his career, Ash has supported legends James Brown, The Black Keys, Jack Johnson, Xavier Rudd, and Keith Urban, among numerous others, and played sold out festivals across Europe, Japan, and North America.
