The Box Show | Junkyard Beats
Araluen Arts Centre and Junkyard Beats present The Box Show!
You'll never look at a cardboard box the same way again!
Prepare to have your minds blown! Four quirky misfits turn everyday junk—wheelie bins, kitchen scraps, plastic bags-into an electrifying symphony of beats, rhythm & creativity.
This high-energy adventure transforms trash into treasure with explosive drumming, dance and laugh-out-loud comedy. An abandoned kitchen becomes a drum set, plastic bags turn into instruments and the human body becomes a sound machine!
It’s a thrilling celebration of rhythm, imagination & sustainability for all ages. Speaking in ‘Rhythmish’—a playful language made of rhythm & gibberish—this show will hook you from start to finish! Join these musical misfits who reinvigorate forgotten junk.
Critic’s Pick Award Winner: Sydney Fringe 2018

Junkyard Beats began as a street show in Sydney in 2015, quickly gaining attention and making waves in the entertainment scene with its innovative use of recycled materials as instruments.
The unique blend of rhythm, creativity and sustainability lead to significant milestones, including performing with Guy Sebastian on Australia Day’s main event live on TV, being invited to TEDx, receiving a community contribution award from the City of Sydney, headlining New Year’s Eve in front of 10,000 people, and performing on the Disney Channel.
A major turning point came when Junkyard Beats created their first theatre production, The Box Show, at Sydney Fringe Festival, winning the Critics’ Pick Award.
Since then, they have toured Australia’s biggest theatres and expanded internationally. Building on this success, they also created another hit show, Junklandia, which has been making waves and touring Australia.
In 2024, they launched their latest production, Elements at the Sydney Spiegeltent during the Sydney Fringe Festival.
Junkyard Beats continues to captivate audiences at festivals, events, theatres and schools across Australia, inspiring people with their message of creative recycling and rhythm.
