Araluen Arts Centre and Greenbush Art Group presents

THE MASKS WE WEAR

Greenbush artists have gained a reputation for their sculptural works made within the confines of the Alice Springs Correctional Centre. They endeavour to make works sustainably, by using upcycled, recycled and re purposed materials. The opportunity to be creative not only contributes to healing it also gives artists a connectivity to an ‘outside world’ that they otherwise do not have.

The masks we wear explores the concept of mask making on many levels. These sculptural artworks are made from metal, wood, paper clay, textiles and found objects. They are serious, humorous, ridiculous, and outrageous and also reference historical mask making. This exhibition pushes the boundaries of what a mask really is and how we all at some point wear a mask to keep us from getting hurt or being vulnerable.

This is the fifth annual exhibition held by the Greenbush Art Group at Araluen.
