MZAZA - The Birth and Death of Stars

Music

Multi-award winning world music favorites MZAZA present critically acclaimed show The Birth and Death of Stars.

The Birth and Death of Stars, based on the award-nominated album of the same name, draws inspiration from history’s philosophers and astronomers, leading us on a surreal voyage through the ether to explore what links us to each other and the world around us.

Sitting comfortably between music and theatre, the show is a powerful collaboration of creative minds featuring director Benjamin Knapton, Finnish animator Laura Matikainen and writer Pauline Maudy.

Take a step away from the everyday and contemplate our place in the universe to the sounds of some of Australia’s most uniquely diverse musicians, storytellers and composers.

Multi-award-winning world musicians Mzaza packed the Powerhouse Theatre for a live rendition of their acclaimed album The Birth and Death of Stars. Enthusiastic music lovers enjoyed the passion, intelligence and musicality of the sextet, performed against a surreal digital set by Finnish animator Laura Matikainen… While the audience had been asked to avoid shouting out during the show, people were so moved they couldn’t help themselves. Mzaza’s commitment and love for their work was palpable, inspiring the same passion in return from the appreciative crowd.
