of People and Place

Araluen Art Collection

Situated at the very centre of the continent Mparntwe (Alice Springs) confronts you with its immediacy, it challenges with its contradictions and seduces with its beauty. Artists have long been inspired by the imposing landscapes while First Nations people draw on their deep cultural knowledge handed down through countless generations to represent it.

The act of art-making is a means to go deeper into the psyche of this place and its people. It can lead to a greater understanding of the many facets of what it means to live here or facilitate a demonstration of rich stories.

This exhibition celebrates artists who live or have lived in Mparntwe and whose artworks are a fundamental part of the Araluen Art Collection. The works embody diverse styles, mediums and creativity and are unified through the distinct subjects of people and place – each are key aspects that shape this unique part of the world and its many complexities and undeniable richness.
