The 2025 cinema release of Spit staring David Wenham as Johny 'Spit' Spitieri is pure comedy. Written by Chris Nyst who launched his career in film with the acclaimed Australian movie Gettin Square which also starred David Wenham, he has created another comedic gem. It has taken the director Jonathan Teplitsky 10 years to get this one in the can. Critics have acclaimed this film is fun, it has heart and is well worth seeing on the big screen.

After 20 years on the run, small-time former criminal Johnny Spitieri (Spit) slips back into Australia on a false passport, only to find himself locked up in an Immigration Detention Centre with a massive target on his back. As enemies come looking for him, determined to settle old scores, he struggles to stay one step ahead and whilst locked up, the resourceful 'Spit' finds new friends, teaching them his version of 'mateship' (friendship) and what it means to be truly 'Australian'.
