TQ24 Alice Springs Quilting Club Exhibition

Exhibitions

The Alice Springs Quilting Club are excited to be hosting the TQ24 (Territory Quilts2024) Quilting Exhibition in Witchetty’s at the Araluen Arts Centre in Alice Springs /Mparntwe.
Thanks to the major sponsor, Bernina, who will be providing three amazing sewing machines as awards for Best of Show, Amateur Encouragement and Junior Quiltmaker. We are also thankful to our local, NT and interstate sponsors who have generously helped
us put this exhibition together and have provided excellent prizes for each category winner.

TQ24 will showcase the remarkable creations of the year from across the Northery Territory and will gather quilters and enthusiasts together to share camaraderie and innovations in quilting concepts and techniques. The quilts presented in the exhibition will be hand crafted or machine-made. They will explore traditional influences with original designs as well new experimentation. We are delighted to welcome Emilie Knight to Alice Springs as an experienced quilter and exhibition judge in 2024. Emilie is excited to be coming to Alice Springs where she will use her extensive knowledge and experience of quilting as she judges our exhibition.

About The Alice Springs Quilting Club

ASQC is a not-for-profit organisation first founded in 1981 by Kaye Reust and Constance Price, two American quilt-makers who decided to see how many others shared their love and knowledge of patchwork. The ASQC has held an exhibition at Araluen Arts Centre each year since 1984 and are well and truly part of the fabric of Central Australia’s patchwork passion. One year an exhibition is held for ASQC Members only and the following year a Territory wide exhibition is hosted by ASQC.

ASQC is a not-for-profit organisation with the objectives of:

  • Sharing the enjoyment of patchwork, piecing and quilting.
  • Promoting and exchanging ideas among those interested in or engaged in the quilting process.
  • Sharing and demonstrating methods and techniques of creative quilting and inspiring personal achievements.
  • To work in harmony with other organisations.

More information about ASQC can be found on their website https://alicequiltingclub.org.au

"The craft of quilting—stitching three layers of fabric together and usually decorated with some kind of pattern - has been around since at least the thirteenth century and probably earlier. At  first, quilts were created for utilitarian purposes as clothing or bed coverings for warmth. Over time, they became much more than bed or wall coverings and have become intricate and decorative works of art."
